Fernando Torres, Mayor of Barbastro, inaugurated today the 40th edition of the University Conference of the Pyrenees, and encouraged the 210 university students to "take advantage of these days of reflection in the framework of Somontano" and encouraged to "jointly disseminate our resources". Torres spoke alongside Javier Casanova, director of Alumni of the University of Navarra, Alonso Schlatter, academic secretary, and Alfonso Jiménez, secretary general of the JUP. El Grado, Torreciudad, Barbastro, Alquézar and Graus are the venues and meeting points of this edition, organized by the colleges of the University of Navarra and held from today until August 3 at the permanent headquarters of El Grado. Two hundred Spanish university students, together with two groups of Canadian and Belgian students are participating in this 40th edition, which is held annually at El Grado and which debates on "The pursuit of happiness" through conferences, seminars and working groups. The artistic activities include a Viola da Gamba concert with Pilar Almalé at the Basilica of the Virgen de la Peña in Graus; wood sculpture with Abel de Vicente, from Equipo Hacha; a flamenco concert at the Plaza Cruz de Buil in Alquézar, dinner at the Espacio Vicente Baldellou, and a final act at the Plaza Sur of the Diocesan Museum of Barbastro, after the closing dinner at the Gran Hotel. The academic plan of these conferences will approach the chosen theme from different perspectives. This year the four conferences will be given by Benigno Blanco, Rafael Domingo, Marcelo L. Cambronero and Begoña Urien. The meetings will take place at the headquarters of Bodegas LAUS. The seminars deal with humanities in the times of Artificial Intelligence, Russian literature, how to communicate faith and other topics that are available for consultation on the website.
